Today (3/4/2011) I went to Devonport. My family except my mum went on the fairy to Devonport my mum just went in the car but my brother didn't come to Devonport at all. The picture is from Mt Victoria in Devonport looking over Auckland. At Devonport they had a horse in cart there was also a big cannon that I climbed on.

HOWFirst I planned my mask so I had an idea on how my mask would look on the real thing. Then I painted my base colour. I had to remember to let it dry. Then I did Koru's for my detail . Don't make your mask too detailed because it will look messy. After I did my painting I stuck all of the feathers on and my other objects. Be careful that you don't burn your-self with the hot glue gun, like I did. Owch!

WHAT WAS CHALLENGING...
I thought sticking my objects onto my masks was quite hard because they kept falling off.
WHAT I LEARNED...
I learned that :1) when you put lots of detail onto your mask it will look messy.2) I had to go through quite a process to make my mask.3)You need to use contrasting colours so it stands out in the crowd.4) You need a lot of space and time.

This term the year 5's have been writing a speech for the speech competition. The speech competition is when the year 5's write a speech about any topic the want to chose from. My topic is about Kea the mountain parrot. At school in room 9 we have been doing a lot of plans because the teacher want's us to have a really good speech. In our class we have only done our introduction but I think the teacher just says to forget about it because when our re lever came she thought we have done some planing.How it works is we write our speech and then we say it in front of our class and then the finalists from our class and the other year 5 class's do it in front of the year 5's that didn't get in the finalists and then the winner dose it in front of the school.

This term our topic is Discovery and Natural Products. We are going to make a natural product for a science thing at the end of the term. So the teacher said to think of some ideas and I have got some here

My dad studied king penguins on an island near the Antarctic. His only way of communicating with the outside world was by telex or radio phone. He was allowed 50 words per week by telex and 9 minutes on the radio phone every 6 weeks.
A telex machine looks like a typewriter and you type your message on it. The typing punches a hole on a long strip of tape which codes the letters. This tape is put through the telex machine which reads the message and then transmits it by radio.
